Wall of Remembrance
The dedication of the extensions to the Sub-Branch’s Walls of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, February 25 commencing at 9 am.  It is envisaged that the service will be of 15 minutes duration. Sub-Branch members are invited to attend the dedication and it would be appreciated if anyone wishing to attend could notify the Sub-Branch office by Wednesday, February 22 to enable seating, etc. to be arranged.

Extremely Disabled War Veterans CNQ Assn Inc
The EDA wish to remind members and friends that the bookings for the Musical ‘Annie’ at the QPac Theatre on the May 12, close on February 17 – cost for Members is $115 and non Members $120 with morning tea included. We will be leaving from the Hervey Bay RSL Club at 7.45am. The first meeting of 2012 will be held on Monday February 13 at the Hervey Bay RSL Club commencing at 10.30 am. Membership is open to any ex-service or serving woman. New members are always welcome, just roll up on the day.

The Association meets on the second Wednesday of each month, at the Hervey Bay RSL Club.  The first meeting for 2012 will be on Wednesday February 8 commencing 10.30AM. All new members are welcome.

Hervey Bay RSL Women’s Auxiliary
The first meeting for 2012 will be the Annual General Meeting to be held on Tuesday February 14 at 10.00am.  No special qualifications needed, just a will to enjoy each other’s company and assist with the two Tombolas we conduct each year.  We also enjoy bus trips, lunches and have a lot of laughs together. Do you know these War Heroes’ Families?
The Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Senator David Feeney, has called on RSLs, historians and ex-servicemen and women to come forward if they know the next-of-kin of 12 brave Australian servicemen who died in World War II prisoner of war camps.

“In March 2011, the Gillard Government announced that twenty prisoners of war who were killed while escaping during WWII will be posthumously awarded the Commendation for Gallantry,” Senator Feeney said. “So far eight families of these servicemen have been found. We’re looking for the rest. Their bravery should never be forgotten,” Senator Feeney said.

This was the result of the independent Defence Honours and Awards Appeals Tribunal inquiry into Recognition for Far East Prisoners of War who were Killed while Escaping.

The Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service (VVCS) is always available for those that may suffer personal crisis or emotional problems over the Christmas/New Year period. These may include ongoing service-related stresses for veterans, the impact on their families, relationship and family issues, alcohol and drug abuse or other physical or emotional difficulties. Legacy News

Legacy News

The invitations to the Annual Legacy Widows’ Lunch at the RSL on Wednesday December 7 have been posted out and should be returned to Legacy House as soon as possible so we can make the necessary transport arrangements.

Thank you to all the players and helpers at the Legacy Golf Day at Howard which raised $1393 for Legacy. A great effort.

A student from Kingaroy State High School has been awarded the inaugural Legacy Gallipoli Travel Scholarship which will be presented at the Legacy Club’s AGM at Maryborough on Sunday November 27.
