New State By-Laws
Hervey Bay RSL Sub-Branch members are advised that new RSL (Qld Branch) State By-Laws are available in the Sub-Branch office for perusal.

RSL Women’s Auxiliary
The Auxiliary will host a Tombola on Wednesday, May 23. Doors will open at 9.30 am with the Tombola to commence at 10.00 am. Books of tickets available for $2.50, $5.00 and $10.00. Come along and have some fun, there are lots of prizes, lucky doors and a raffle. Morning tea provided.

Legacy News
Planning is well under way for this year’s Annual Legacy Badge Week Appeal which will run for the first week in September. It is hoped that this year’s funds raised will be bigger and better with many new items for sale. The Legacy Group will be holding a Garage Sale and Sausage Sizzle at Legacy House on Saturday June 23, so if you have suitable items for the Sale please let Leigh-Anne at Legacy House know so we can arrange pick up.

A reminder to the Legacy Laurel Club ladies that the next meeting is at 2.00pm on Monday May 21. For bus pick up please phone Max on 4191 4461 before Sunday night.

The next Hervey Bay Group meeting is at 4.00 pm on Monday June 4. The second of the Hervey Bay RSL Sub Branch-Legacy Scholarships worth $3000 has been awarded to Kristy Lee Hopwood to continue with her studies in Early Childhood Education at the University of Southern Queensland.

The Hervey Bay Legacy Laurel Club has a new President. Mrs Lily Brand was elected at the Club’s recent AGM. Mrs Ula Scott is Vice President, Mrs Helen Parker is Secretary and Mrs Patsy Squires Treasurer.

RAAF Association
The Association’s next social outing will be a BBQ luncheon at ESA Park Pt Vernon on Monday May 28, commencing at 1115. For further information contact

TPI (Fraser Coast)
The next monthly Meeting will be held on Wednesday June 6 at the Maryborough RSL Club in the Heritage Room starting at 10.00 am. There will be a luncheon following the Meeting.

The monthly Meeting on Wednesday July 4 will be held at the Hervey Bay RSL Club in Hervey House starting at 10.00 am. There will also be a luncheon following the Meeting. Names for both events to be given to Jill.

There is no information prior to going to print from the Auxiliary regarding trips and outings so members will have to contact Jill.

General Meeting
The quarterly general meeting of the RSL Sub-Branch will be held on Saturday, May 12 commencing at 10.15 am in Hervey House at the RSL Club. All financial Sub-Branch members are invited to attend.

ANZAC Day
The numbers at the Dawn Service this year far exceeded previous years with the short but poignant service touching everyone there. The main march and service of commemoration also saw numbers swell, not only with the number of ex-service and serving personnel in attendance but the school students and the public. By all reports the Gunfire Breakfast and luncheon were well received by those present.

The Sub-Branch would like to thank all those who attended and took part on the day. The interest shown by the younger generations is an indication that the ANZAC Day tradition is in good hands.

We would also like to add a special thank you to all those happy volunteers who manned the stands in the shopping centres selling ANZAC Day memorabilia. The collection this year will go towards assisting with the welfare of ex-service personnel and their families. Thank you to all those members of the public who purchased these items. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Anniversary Dinner
Time is running out for any Sub-Branch member who wishes to attend the Anniversary Dinner on Saturday, May 19, 6.30 for 7pm. Tickets are now on sale at $45.00 per person and available for Sub-Branch members and their guest. Another excellent menu has been chosen with a wonderful selection of drinks to accompany the cuisine. It is always a good night so members should not leave it too long to reserve their place.

Legatees helped the Sub Branch in selling items for the ANZAC Day appeal.

War Widows’ Guild of Hervey Bay
The ladies will meet on Monday, May 7 in the ANZAC Lounge of the RSL Club commencing at 10 am. For transport please phone Tom on 4124 4780 by Sunday evening.

ANZAC Day 2012
The Dawn Service Form up will be from 0500 hrs in front of the RSL, with step off at 0515. The service will commence once all marchers are settled into Freedom Park. The main march and service of commemoration will on form up, once again, in the car parks on Hunter Street behind Woolworths, from 0900 hrs with step off at 0930. The Gunfire Breakfast will be hosted following the Dawn Service and a luncheon will be held after the main service. The functions are open to Hervey Bay RSL Sub-Branch members ONLY (who are entitled to one guest per function), serving Australian Defence Force personnel (and one guest per function), and invited guests.

It would be appreciated if anyone wishing to lay a wreath at the main service could advise the Sub-Branch office prior to the day.

The Sub-Branch Welfare Bus will be doing the usual pick up for the Dawn Service. Ring the office (4197 7477) or drop in, to put your name down. There will NOT be a pick up for the main march.

The Hervey Bay Group is pleased to announce that the first of the 2012 Hervey Bay RSL – Legacy Scholarships for $3000 has been awarded to Raymond Horwood to assist with his continuing studies at the Queensland University. It is anticipated that a second scholarship will be announced in the very near future.

Start putting aside your items for the Annual Legacy Garage Sale and sausage sizzle which is to be held on Saturday June 23. More details later.

Extremely Disabled War Veterans C.N.Q. Assn. Inc

Everyone wishing to attend must have a wristband. Hervey Bay Sub-Branch members and serving members of the ADF are free of charge. Guests of Sub-Branch members must have a wristband at a cost of $25.00 per function or $35.00 for the day – which must be pre-purchased. Wristbands can be collected from the Sub-Branch office ONLY and will not be available after this Friday, April 13 (for catering purposes). The office hours are 9.30 am to 12.30 pm. Any member unable to make it into the office can phone to ensure that arrangements are made for the pick up of their wristband.

It would be appreciated if anyone wishing to lay a wreath at the main service could advise the Sub-Branch office prior to the day.

Legacy News
Hervey Bay Legacy Group recently accepted the retirement of Peter Whitby from Legacy. Peter, and Helen, have been great workers and gave much input into the Club’s 5 Year Plan, as well as caring for a large number of widows. We wish them well in their future pursuits.

The Legacy Year is already filled up with a Legacy Bowls Day on Sunday July 15 at the Urangan Bowls Club and a Legacy Golf Day at the Burrum Golf Club at Howard on Saturday October 13. More details later. The annual Legacy Badge Week planning is well advance

The Tombola will be held on Wednesday, May 23 in Hervey House at the RSL Club with all proceeds being donated to help support local charities. New members are always most welcome.

ANZAC Day 2012
The arrangements have begun for the Dawn Service and main march and service of commemoration on ANZAC Day, Wednesday, 25^th April. Details for the Dawn service and main march and service of commemoration remain the same, viz, 5am form up with 5.15 step off, service commencing when all marchers are gathered at Freedom Park – Gunfire Breakfast to follow. The main march form up is in Hunter Street, once again, from 9am with step off at 9.30. A luncheon will be held following the main service.

The functions are open to Hervey Bay RSL Sub-Branch members ONLY (who are entitled to one guest per function), serving Australian Defence Force personnel (and one guest per function), and invited guests.

Legacy Laurel Club of Hervey Bay

“Partners of Veterans”
The group meets on the third Monday of each month, alternating between Hervey Bay & Maryborough. The next get together is on Monday, March 19, 10am at the Maryborough RSL. Lunch will following in the Club Bistro. Should you need transport or wish to car pool please contact Ann in Hervey Bay on 4194 5143 and Pauline in Maryborough on 4123 4430. Come and meet other Partners of Veterans and support each other for a healthy future.

DVA Outreach
A representative from the Sunshine Coast Veterans’ Access Network of DVA will be available to conduct personal interviews in Hervey Bay on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 between 10.30 am and 4.00 pm. These interviews are held at the Hervey Bay Veterans’ Information Service which is situated at Centrelink, Hunter Street, Pialba. Search for F-111 Maintenance Workers
The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs has called for all F-111 fuel tank maintenance workers, between 1973 and 2000, to come forward to check their eligibility for entitlements.

If you, a family member or mate undertook F-111 fuel tank maintenance work, please call the Department of Veterans’ Affairs on 1800 555 323 as soon as possible.

The Government’s compensation package was provided in response to a 2009 Parliamentary Inquiry into entitlements and benefits for former F-111 deseal/reseal and associated fuel tank maintenance workers including ‘pick and patch’ workers. There is a wide range of benefits available including health care schemes, counselling and compensation.

DVA Outreach
