RSL SUB BRANCH COMMUNITY LINK PROGRAMME

COMMUNITY LINK REPORT

January 2018

The Community Link projects were ceased by the Managers of State RSL in 2017. Various Sub-branches, who had a very good following with Community Link, have been very disappointed with this decision.

On a positive note, the Bribie Island Sub-branch has decided to start up the project themselves, with State RSL approval. Hervey Bay Sub-branch, in conjunction with Bribie Island, will now continue the Community Link project.

Hervey Bay RSL has issued over 500 Veterans Memorial Plaques since Community Link started in 2008.

It has also been involved in “Community Link Remembrance WW1 project” where 4 Senior Schools and 2 Primary Schools are researching The World War 1 Veterans who are named on the War Memorial in Freedom Park Hervey Bay.

The ANZAC Day Centenary Youth Competition was held in October 2017.

The winning 2 students will give their speech on ANZAC Day 2018 at the Dawn and Main Service.

The winners were Sarah Laidler from Hervey Bay High School and Cassidy Dobson from Xavier College.  Congratulations to both students.
